Vanilla Hakuna Matata Project: a virtuous model where vanilla becomes a tool for growth, inclusion, and sustainable development for local communities.
Pillar 1: Quality
We have launched a project with a local NGO, our partner in Tanzania, Hakuna Matata. This is a special vanilla, characterised by a delicately floral bouquet and an authentic flavour. We ensure full traceability throughout the entire journey, from the grower to our production facility.
Pillar 2: Environment
The vanilla from the project supported by Hakuna Matata is grown with full respect for the environment. We promote integrated agroforestry systems, intercropping vanilla with plant species that generate benefits for local communities and contribute to climate resilience. Cultivation takes place exclusively under natural shade, with no contribution to deforestation; on the contrary, the project has led to the restoration and greening of land through the planting of shade trees, banana plants and vanilla itself.
Pillar 3: Social
The vanilla project was created with a strong social commitment, aimed at providing tangible support to local communities in the central highlands of Tanzania. The project offers direct employment opportunities for vulnerable groups, with a particular focus on women and young people; learning opportunities for future farmers through continuous training for students and young members of the community; and economic empowerment for growers through training, cultivation support and facilitated access to the market for a high-income crop.
A significant portion of the vanilla produced by the project comes from partner institutions operating directly in the area, such as schools, hospitals and orphanages. Through their involvement in cultivation, these organisations strengthen their sustainability and contribute to the development of surrounding communities.
