10 things to dip in chocolate fondue

Discover 10 chocolate fondue ideas you can try at home; some of them are more unexpected and perfect for when you’re entertaining, while others are classics that everyone knows and loves.

1. Fresh fruit

Serve elegant food without any hassle by choosing fresh fruits for your chocolate fondue dippers—a tried and trusted choice for good reason. The refreshing, punchy flavors of fruit perfectly balance the sweetness of chocolate.

Make sure to use the highest-quality fruits you can find, wash them well, and cut them into bite-sized pieces for easy dipping. Some of our favourites include strawberries, raspberries, apple slices, oranges, and cherries, which pair deliciously with white, milk, and dark chocolate.

We’d like to add a special mention: fresh figs as a dipping idea, especially for when you’re celebrating. They’re a little more extravagant, but the subtle, unique flavour of fresh figs will shine through even more when paired with dark chocolate

2. Cookies

Cookies and chocolate fondue are perfect together. The wholesome, crumbly texture of cookies is only made better with the melted chocolate. The best part is you can try so many different flavours from Oreos to gingerbreads or, of course, chocolate chip cookies, because you can never have too much chocolate.

3. Cheese

Add a gourmet twist to your chocolate fondue with cheese dippers that can cater to all kinds of taste buds. You can choose creamy brie, whose earthy flavors are the perfect match for the sweetness of milk chocolate.

Or opt for more grown-up flavors with blue cheese or gorgonzola that effortlessly pair with the intensity of dark chocolate. For the kids or kids-at-heart, mozzarella sticks with their gooey inside and crispy fried outside, will also be a crowd pleaser.

4. Pretzels

Salty and sweet combinations are always a hit, so make sure to have plenty of salted pretzels on hand, ready for dipping. The crunchiness of the pretzels perfectly balances the creaminess of the chocolate, creating a fun mix of textures and flavors. Feel free to use pretzel sticks to make dipping them even easier and mess-free.

5. Sponge Cake

The blend of fluffy sponge cake with oozing, warm melted chocolate is one of those delights that need little explanation; it just works. It’s all about simple, classic flavours that pair effortlessly together and make a timeless dessert even more tasty.

6. Popcorn

Popcorn is one of those snacks that can match deliciously with sweet and savory foods, and it’s an ideal chocolate fondue dipper that both young and old will love. You can play around with flavours even more by serving a mix of different flavoured popcorn, like cheddar, pepper, or even caramelised popcorn.

7. Coconut Chips

Healthy doesn’t have to mean bland, and coconut chips are the proof. They match well with chocolate while also providing a mix of crispiness and juiciness.

8. Brownies

Add a touch of indulgence to your chocolate fondue with bite-sized brownie pieces. Their fudgy texture and rich flavour pair beautifully with the smooth melted chocolate, creating a double-chocolate delight that everyone will love. Cut them into small cubes for easy dipping and serving.

9. Marshmallows

Marshmallows are a fondue favourite for a reason. Their soft, fluffy texture soaks up the warm chocolate perfectly, giving you a melt-in-your-mouth treat. For extra fun, try using a mix of classic white and colourful marshmallows to brighten up your fondue platter.

10. Nuts

Nuts and chocolate are a classic combination, with the crunchiness of the nuts contrasting well with the richness of the chocolate. Macadamias pair especially well with white chocolate, while pistachios are perfect for those who love more decadent, moreish flavours. To keep things clean, place the nuts on your plate and then drizzle the chocolate fondue over them.

What's the best chocolate for fondue?

Glossy chocolate fondue is what we all wish for, but how do we achieve that? This is where it will be worthwhile to splurge a little and use the finest quality chocolate you can. We recommend choosing chocolate with a high cocoa butter percentage to make it melt easily and create a smooth texture.

If you love the intensity and aromas of cacao, then dark chocolate could be a good choice. While for those who prefer sweeter flavours, milk chocolate won’t let you down and will still give you plenty of creaminess.

Try something a little different and elevate the traditional chocolate fondue with a few exciting enhancements. For extra richness, add some generous dashes of cream to your chocolate or make it fun for adults with a tablespoon of orange or coffee liqueur.
